Das Glarofon, An Impressive Percussion Instrument Made From Glass Tubes of Varying Sizes
In 2011, musician Olaf Pyras debuted the incredibly impressive Glarophon, a unique percussive instrument made from handcrafted long glass tubes of varying width and sizes. The instrument was built by glassmith Rolf Wiemers of Glasblaserei Zellerfeld, who also created a Glasglockenspiel.
(translated) Glass maker Rolf Wiemers, who constantly explores new ways to uses glass, had an idea to build instruments of glass: Working with glass blower Thorsten Kunze and his brother, Ludger Wiemers, an organ builder, he developed a modern glass chimes.
