Apple Announces New 13 and 15-Inch MacBook Pros, Will Release OS X 10.9 Mavericks For Free
Today at Apple’s October 22nd event in San Francisco, the company announced that OS X 10.9 Mavericks, first announced at WWDC 2013 in June, will be available starting today for free for existing Mac users.
Apple also announced refreshed versions of the 13 and 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops. The 13-inch model is thinner and lighter at 3.46 pounds and .71 inches thick, and has been updated with Intel Haswell processors, Iris graphics, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Thunderbolt 2. The base model has nine hours of battery life, starts at $1,299, and will begin shipping today.
In addition to improved Wi-Fi, Thunderbolt 2, and a promised eight hours of battery life, the 15-inch MacBook Pro has been updated with Intel’s Crystalwell integrated graphics chips. Buyers also have the option to add a discrete Nvidia GeForce 750M graphics card. The base model starts at $1,999 and will ship today.
Apple also announced that the unique Mac Pro, also announced this year at WWDC, will be available in December for $2,999.
