A Walking Robot and Flying Camera Drone Work Together to Successfully Navigate Terrain and Avoid Obstacles
A walking robot and flying camera drone work together to successfully navigate terrain and avoid obstacles to reach a goal. The pair of robots were developed by a team from the Autonomous Systems Lab at Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich. The drone flies through an area and makes use of its on-board camera to create a detailed map that the walking robot can use to find the safest path to its goal location.
The team has submitted a paper for peer review about their work, and they expect to publicly debut the pair of robots at IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation in 2016.
