A Line of Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt Flavors Inspired by Henri Matisse’s Cut-Outs
Artist and chef Jeni Britton Bauer of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams found herself so inspired by Henri Matisse‘s vibrant cut-outs at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City that she created a line of ice cream and frozen yogurt flavors based on the colors in Matisse’s work. After weeks of rigorous testing, The Colors Collection–a series of three ice cream flavors and three frozen yogurt flavors–was born. The ice creams are named for the colors themselves, while the flavors are blends that represent each color. For example, ultramarine blue buttermilk frozen yogurt has a primary flavor of blueberries while garance vert clair tastes of lemongrass and coriander.
Will the color be sweet, sour, or bitter? Maybe tart? What about mossy, toasted, fruity, or comforting? The taste of a color is always in the eye of the beholder. With that in mind, we created the COLORS Collection—six ice creams and frozen yogurts that will inspire you to ask yourself, what does color taste like?
The Colors Collection is available in specialty markets and online.
