Feel-O-Meter

The Fühlometer (“Feel-O-Meter”) is an interactive art installation of a giant face that mirrors the mood of the city in which it is installed (video via VernissageTV). A camera records the facial expressions of nearby pedestrians and the images are analyzed by facial recognition software to determine an average mood. The mood is reflected on the face, which alternates between smiley, frownie, and indifferent. Fühlometer was most recently installed in 2010 at Lindau Island, in Germany. It was created by Julius von Bismarck, Benjamin Maus, and Richard Wilhelmer.
