The Kids’ Pages of US Intelligence & Law Enforcement Agencies
Fun Fact! Did you know that many US law enforcement and intelligence agency websites have special pages for kids? The pages vary in quality as some of them are clearly quite old (that means you, CIA Kids’ Page) but they all follow a similar template. Most feature cartoon mascots, like the National Security Agency’s CryptoKids and Beaker the National Counterterrorism Center eagle. Many sites also have coloring books and—most fun of all—games. For instance, the National Counterterrorism Center Kids Zone includes the game Odd Sam Out, which invites children to figure out which one of ten Uncle Sam faces is different.
The pages appear to be the result of an April 18, 1997 memorandum by President Clinton which urged federal agencies to develop online educational tools. Many of the pages reference their compliance to the memorandum explicitly. Below you’ll find a partial list of US law enforcement and intelligence agency kids’ pages…have fun!
