The ‘Millennial Whoop’, A Musical Phrase That Has Worked Its Way Into Many Modern Pop Songs
Quartz writer Adam Epstein called attention to “The Millennial Whoop“, a term first coined by writer and musician Patrick Metzger in a post on his blog The Patterning. The Millennial Whoop is a musical phrase where singers move between the fifth and third notes of a major scale while singing “Oh” or a similar noise. Epstein’s video for Quartz has no shortage of examples of the Whoop being used in songs from the past few years.
