“Sir Grumpsalot” by Judson Portzer
The Grumpy Cat Art Project is an upcoming group art exhibit at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment center in Huntsville, Alabama featuring artwork inspired by the popular internet meme and feline, Tard the Grumpy Cat. There will be an online auction on the Lowe Mill website beginning on Monday, May 27, 2013 and end at 9 PM on May 31st. All proceeds from the auction will go to the contributing artists and to constructing a children’s playground at Lowe Mill. After the online auction ends, there will be a public art reception at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment center on May 31st from 6 PM to 9 PM.
How do you show to the world the incredible diversity of talent that inhabits Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment? We asked ourselves that question two months ago and realized that the best solution was to challenge our artists to take on one specific subject using their own unique mediums and distinct styles. And what better subject could there be than the internet’s most famous feline?
Over thirty of Lowe Mill’s 100+ studios contributed to the project, with works ranging from painting to sculpture, to rug-hooking, to stained glass and chainmail.
