Sir George Martin (1926-2016), Legendary Music Producer and Composer Known as the ‘Fifth Beatle’

Sir George Martin, the multi-talented legendary music and television producer, musician, composer and engineer who became known worldwide as the “Fifth Beatle”, passed away at his home near Swindon in southwest England. He was 90 years old. Ringo Starr announced the sad news to the world via Twitter .


Sir Paul McCartney also expressed his condolences in a heartfelt statement.

He was a true gentleman and like a second father to me. He guided the career of The Beatles with such skill and good humour that he became a true friend to me and my family. If anyone earned the title of the fifth Beatle it was George. From the day that he gave The Beatles our first recording contract, to the last time I saw him, he was the most generous, intelligent and musical person I’ve ever had the pleasure to know.

Rest in Peace Sir George. You changed this world for the better.
