Article Spoofs Media Claiming Saudi King Abdullah Is Buying Facebook
On Sunday, Dawn Wires posted that Saudi King Abdullah was planning a $150 billion buyout offer for Facebook in an effort to curb pro-democracy protest movements on the site. Several news media outlets, including Iran’s Tehran Times, gamely spread the story as fact. The story, however, is fake news.
Let this be a lesson to journalists who fail to fact check. Or more specifically, fail to note the article was filed under “Sunday Humor.”
