A Fascinating Video History of the Evolution of the Famous Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Lion Logo

Movie Munchies has created a fascinating video history of the evolution of the famous Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer lion logo through the years. It began in 1917 with Goldwyn Pictures’ first movie¬†Polly of the Circus, and has gone through many subtle redesigns in the nearly 100 years since its creation.

Although small changes have been made, the logo remains largely the same with its iconic lion and the slogan “Ars gratia artis”–meaning “Art for art’s sake.” The video includes examples of the various versions, and even goes so far as to give the names of each of the lions that were filmed.
