Two Squirrels Released Into the Wild Come Back Often to Visit Their Rescuer Regularly

A pair of rescued squirrels named Soraya and Salome, who were raised by Andrea of Second Chances and released into the wild after they’d grown, return regularly to visit their beloved rescuer, making themselves at home as they once did.

Andrea said that she took the pair in separately as babies and gave them the skills they would need to survive outside.

Soraya came to us when someone reported that their dog was carrying her on his mouth. she was so little and so weak. About 3 weeks later, one of our vets told us there was another squirrel that had fallen from her nest. We decided to take her in as well and we named her Salome. …we tried to teach them all the skills they needed in order to survive in the wild. That included climbing,  feeding, and exploring. They were very clever and curious about everything.

Andrea loves that they come back to visit but wants them to enjoy their freedom as well.

I’m so happy to see them running wild and free I think a lot of people don’t realize how important they are for our environment. I love them so much but I respect their freedom and I hope to see them for a long time.
