Oracle co-founder and CEO Larry Ellison has reached a deal to purchase 98% of the island of Lanai (aka the “pineapple island”), the sixth-largest of the Hawaiian Islands. According to CNET, he is purchasing it from Castle & Cooke (which is owned billionaire David Murdock) for an estimated $500 million. Boston.com reports that he plans on “substantial investments that will create jobs and stimulate tourism to the island once owned in the 1920s by the founder of Dole Foods Co.”
