A Few Possible Origin Stories for the High Five
Craig Benzine shares a few possible origins stories for the high five in a recent episode of the Mental Floss series Big Questions. Although the origin of the gesture itself is unclear, the first time it was called a “high five” was during a 1980 University of Louisville Cardinals basketball game when announcer Al McGuire coined the term.
