4chan Founder Christopher ‘moot’ Poole Steps Down as Community’s Sole Administrator After More Than a Decade
4chan founder Christopher “moot” Poole will be stepping down from his long-standing position as the community’s sole administrator 11 and a half years after founding the wildly popular and often controversial imageboard at age 15. In a letter posted on the site’s news feed, Poole described his leadership position as a “single point of failure,” a perception that has led him to hand 4chan’s leadership over to a handful of senior volunteers.
I’m humbled to have had the privilege of both founding and presiding over what is easily one of the greatest communities to ever grace the Web. It was truly an honor to serve as 4chan’s founding administrator, and I look forward to seeing what the next decade holds for the site.
Today I announced my retirement from @4chan, a community I founded at the age of 15 and have served for 11.5 years: https://t.co/jEMsDf5nfz
