Yuri's Night Bay Area 2007

Yuri’s Night 2008 is a worldwide celebration of Yuri Gagarin, the first person to orbit the earth and Yuri’s Night Bay Area 2008 takes place on Saturday, April 12th at the NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field near Mountain View. This year will also be a celebration of NASA’s 50th anniversary and will be the largest Yuri’s Night ever, featuring talks by Will Wright and Stewart Brand, art and sculpture by The Flaming Lotus Girls, Michael Christian and Cyclecide, performances by Capacitor and Amon Tobin, as well as the debut of Telstar, featuring Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead.

This year the San Francisco Bay Area will be home to the largest Yuri’s Night celebration ever. At the NASA Ames Research Center over 8,000 people will join astronauts, artists, musicians, scientists and engineers to learn, celebrate, and pay tribute to our global space heritage; and to celebrate the anniversaries of the first human spaceflight and the first space shuttle mission. Yuri’s Night Bay Area 2008 is a one-of-a-kind local community event: a perfect fusion of celebration and tribute, technology expo, Maker Faire, art exhibition, and music festival; all rolled into one.

Is this going to be a dry event? Or will it be liquor friendly?

We just threw our Yuri’s Night party in Toronto last night at the Ontario Science Centre and it was AMAZING! Bob Richards of Odyssey Moon was the guest speaker and I understand he will be in Mountain View next weekend.

Photos forthcoming – wish I could make it to YNBA!

I believe cellist Zoe Keating (mentioned here before at Laughing Squid) is also scheduled to play at this event.
