European Space Agency Proposes 3D Printing a Moon Base out of Lunar Soil

3D Printed Moon Base

To simplify the logistical problems of building a lunar base, the European Space Agency is testing the feasibility of using 3D printing to build a base out of lunar soil. ESA’s industrial partners have proposed a lunar base consisting of 3D printed domes with hollow, closed cell walls inspired by bird bones. An inflatable structure within the dome would contain living quarters for astronauts.
