Coyote Peterson Feeds Treats to a Rescued Baby Mexican Hairy Dwarf Porcupine Named Bud

While spending time at the Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary in Costa Rica, Brave Wilderness host Coyote Peterson spent some time with a baby Mexican hairy dwarf porcupine named Bud, who slowly enjoyed a yummy snack of fresh peanuts while perched upon a log. Luckily, Bud didn’t quill him nor did Peterson provoke him to do so.

Being a Mexican Hairy Dwarf Porcupine, Bud is unique from most other Porcupines in that he has a prehensile tail which enables him to hang from tree limbs to make himself better suited for an arboreal lifestyle in the rainforests of Costa Rica. In fact, this special quality has given Bud’s species the appropriate nickname of the “Tree Porcupine”.
