President Obama and Joel McHale Host the 2014 White House Correspondents Association Dinner
Vice-President Joe Biden and actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus opened the the 2014 White House Correspondents Association Dinner in Washington, D.C. on May 3, 2014 with a short video showing the unlikely scenario of two Vice-Presidents out on the town.
After the video, President Barack Obama took to the stage and cracked jokes, mostly at his own expense.
It is great to be back, what a year, huh? I usually start this dinner off with a few self-deprecating jokes. After a stellar 2013, what could I possibly talk about? I admit it, last year was rough. Sheesh. At one point, things got so bad, the 47 percent called Mitt Romney to apologize. Of course, we rolled out healthcare.gov – that could have gone better. In 2008, my slogan was “Yes We Can. In 2013, my slogan was “Control, Alt, Delete”.
Later on, comedian Joel McHale had his turn hurling good-natured barbs at the President, Mrs. Obama, Cliven Bundy, New Jersey governor Chris Christie and even C-SPAN, just to name a few.
C-SPAN is like one of those Paranormal Activity movies. It’s just grainy shots of empty rooms interrupted by images of people you’re pretty sure are dead.
