Photos: Space Shuttle Endeavour Flying Over the San Francisco Bay Area in its Final Flight
This morning, the NASA’s space shuttle Endeavour flew over the San Francisco Bay Area (piggybacked on a 747 jet) on its way from Edwards Air Force Base in Edwards, California to Los Angeles Airport (LAX) in its final leg of its cross-country journey. This is the Endeavour’s last flight and it is now head to its final destination at the California Science Center.
In the hopes of seeing it, I drove down to my local beach here in Alameda, California. I wasn’t alone, quite a crowd had gathered to see it and the anticipation was thick. The wait was worth it, as it eventually flew directly over us (and then came back for another view)! There was cheering, high fives and several of us teared up at the thrill of seeing this once-in-a-lifetime event.
Here are the photos I took:
This was our first spotting of the space shuttle Endeavour, as it headed our way flying over Bay Farm Island, Alameda, California
As it got closer, we realized it was about to fly directly over our heads…
#spottheshuttle that was amazing !! We all got teared up, it went directly over our heads! #fantastic
