Online printing firm MOO is rolling out smart business cards with near field communication technology that are able to communicate with NFC-enabled mobile devices (video). The NFC card contains a chip and an antenna that transmit data to a mobile device when the card and the device are tapped together (the same system is used in many transit cards and door entry systems). The NFC card could send contact details to the device, or direct it to a website, video, map—the possibilities are limited only by imagination. An upcoming companion Android app will allow card creators to configure (and reconfigure) their NFC cards. To test the new cards, MOO is currently shipping one free NFC card with each order of business cards.
