MARTY, A Self-Driving Drifting DeLorean Built by Stanford That Was Inspired by ‘Back to the Future’

MARTY delorean

MARTY is an autonomous drifting DeLorean built by researchers at Stanford University and named after the character of Marty McFly from Back to the Future. The vehicle is meant to study how cars perform in extreme situations like drifts and skids, but if a university is going to build a self-driving vehicle to study how cars perform, why not do it with some style?

The timing of the news is apt because today is October 21, 2015 or “Back to the Future Day” which marks the date Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel forward to in the future in Back to the Future II.
