The MakerBot Digitizer, a desktop 3D scanner that was announced earlier this year at SXSW, is now available for pre-order from the MakerBot website and will begin shipping in October. The Digitizer scans physical objects — like this example of a Laser Cat — into 3D modeling software, allowing users to share and print the model using a 3D printer. MakerBot CEO Bre Pettis gives a brief description of what the Digitizer is and how it works in this video:
