Fitzcardboardaldo, A Cardboard Tribute Film to Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo

The short film “FITZCARDBOARDALDO” by artist Robin Frohardt is an elaborate cardboard tribute to the 1982 film Fitzcarraldo by Werner Herzog. In Herzog’s film, an Irish man in pursuit of Peruvian rubber embarks on a foolish quest to transport a 320-ton steamship up a hill in the jungle—a feat that was actually recreated for the film without special effects in the famously difficult production. The film was the subject of a making-of documentary, Burden of Dreams by Les Blank. Frohardt also made a making-of documentary for “FITZCARDBOARDALDO” entitled “Corrugation of Dreams.”
