Art/Craft, Sculptures of Dinnerware Surgical Experiments
“Art/Craft” is a series of ceramic sculptures in which plates and mugs are presented as “surgical experiments in progress,” complete with peeled away layers and surgical instruments. UK ceramicist Beccy Ridsdel created the series as a commentary on the craft vs. art debate:
The installation takes the form of an observation of a surgical experiment in progress. The ‘surgeon’ is dissecting the craft object to see what is within. He finds craft through and through. He tries the experiment again and again, piling up the dissected work, hoping to see something different but it is always the same
Ridsdel sells ceramic art on her online store.
