A Fascinating Look at Colon, Michigan, The ‘Magic Capital of the World’

The Verge has posted a fascinating feature on Colon, Michigan, a small village of just over 1,000 residents who refer to it as the “Magic Capital of the World.” The town’s reputation for magic began in 1926, when stage magician Harry Blackstone took up residence and began inviting fellow magicians to join him. The town soon became home to a magic industry — Blackstone and Australian magician Percy Abbott started a magic trick manufacturing company together, the Abbott Magic Company. The partners soon split but Abbott started the company anew and, in 1934, held the first annual Abbott’s Magic Get Together, a convention for magicians — an event that continues to this day. The Verge has more on Colon, the Get Together, and the town’s magic community.
