Fortunate Sons by Danielle Lurie, A Film About Honor Killings
Our friend, filmmaker Danielle Lurie and her producer Katie Mustard, are currently developing “Fortunate Sons”, a feature length film written and directed by Danielle about the human rights issue of honor killings, where women are killed by their own family members. They have setup an IndieGoGo project to help raise funds for the film.
FORTUNATE SONS is a narrative feature film which is about the human rights issue of honor killings: a practice where women are killed by their own family members for committing any form of adultery. According the UN Commission on Human Rights, over 5,000 honor killings occur world-wide each year. In this past decade alone, over 50,000 women have been killed in the name of ‘honor.’ FORTUNATE SONS is a film that analyzes why this practice happens in order to discover a solution to ending it.
Danielle’s amazing short film “In The Morning”, about an honor killing in Turkey, premiered at Sundance in 2005.
Some of you may remember Danielle from our blog post about her short film about “81 Year Old Sweethearts”.
