The finer points of scream painting are illuminated in the instructional video “Yellow Scream,” by South Korean artist Kim Beom. The scream painting technique involves belting out screams (of anguish, terror, joy, etc.) while laying down brushstrokes. While the instructor is remarkably straight-faced about the technique, the video is in fact Kim’s absurdist take on the Bob Ross art instruction program, The Joy of Painting. The video will be on display at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis in early 2013.
