‘Houshi’, A Short Documentary About a Japanese Family That Runs a 1,300-Year-Old Hotel
“Houshi” is a short documentary directed by German photographer Fritz Schumann about a family that has run the same Japanese hotel for around 1,300 years. Founded in 718, the Houshi Ryokan has been passed down from generation to generation.
Since I was born and first cried, everyone told me I would take over the Houshi Ryokan.
The hotel is the oldest family-run business that is still operating in the world.
