Blue Monday by New Order, Released 25 Years Ago

by Scott Beale on March 15, 2008 · 4 comments

The original version of the New Order song “Blue Monday” was released 25 years ago. Man, that makes me feel old. Regardless, it still holds up well after all of these years.

Here’s the orginal 1983 “Blue Monday” music video (look for Zaxxon cameo) and the video for “Blue Monday ‘88” (the version remixed by Quincy Jones) from the Substance video collection.

Here are a couple of live versions of “Blue Monday” from 1984, BBC Radio 1 studios (check out those vocals!) and Estoc de Pop in Barcelona. YouTube is still such a great place to dig up great videos like these.

Damn it, that is a long time ago. GREAT song still… It’s been redone a few times, and still is remixed by electronica artists. We need more of this type of music today… @nrek

Thanks for reminding me how freakin’ old I am, too.

I always liked New Order but I never cared much for “Blue Monday”. I was more of a “Love Vigilantes” man. Here they are performing it in 1985 and here they are twenty years later in 2005.

Cool post, Scott.
