‘Transcendence’, A Performance Art Piece That Uses a Hacked Brainwave Sensor to ‘Levitate’ a Platform
“Transcendence” is a performance art piece by New England-based artist John Slepian that outfits a meditating subject with a hacked brainwave sensor that is used to move a platform up and down in an attempt to make the act of meditation a performance.
Is meditation performative when a simple technical system is constructed to make visible the performer’s state of mind?
The art was performed as part of the Bring It! series at the ZERO1 Gallery in San Jose in July 2014.
