Stickers: Punk Rock to Contemporary Art

Stickers: Stuck-Up Piece of Crap, From Punk Rock to Contemporary Art is a new book by DB Burkeman and Monica LoCascio about the history of stickers. A sticker exhibition following the format of the book will be on tour in 2011.

Starting in 1966 with Andy Warhol’s Banana sticker for the Velvet Underground “STICKERS” chronicles the development of the art form as it spans cultural and artistic genres of the last half-century. It documents the evolution of stickers from early Californian skate culture, the punk rock pioneers, early hip hop, techno/rave culture, graffiti, controversial politics, right up to contemporary street & ?ne art. A large section focuses on non traditional sticker mediums, such as wheatpastes, tiles, mirror or anything else an artist chooses to work with that utilizes adhesive materials.

UPDATE: The Art Collectors did an interview with DB Burkeman about his “Stickers” book.
