Perpetual Energy Wasting Machine by Niklas Roy
The “Perpetual Energy Wasting Machine” is a mechanical device that automatically cycles an elevator between the first and second floor of a building in an infinite loop (video). The device connects the elevator door on the first floor with the call button on the second floor via a system of pulleys. Inside the elevator, a printing calculator tabulates the energy used by each cycle. The results go directly into a trash can below the calculator. The installation was created by Berlin-based artist Niklas Roy during an art residency this fall at the WRO Art Center in Warsaw.
