Matt Groening grew up in Portland, OR and he named several of the characters from The Simpsons after streets in Portland as a tribute to his hometown. This is one of the things he talks about in the recent documentary “The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special – In 3-D! On Ice!” by Morgan Spurlock
