Japanese Maglev Train Breaks Speed Record With 374-MPH Test Run
On Tuesday, the Chuo Shinkansen, a maglev train currently under development by Central Japan Railway Company, reached a new top speed of 374 MPH during a test run. The train beat its previous record of 361 MPH, set in 2003. In 2014, the train transported 100 passengers in a 311-MPH demonstration run. The first route of the Chuo Shinkansen, connecting Tokyo and Nagoya, is expected to open in 2027.
