New 11 Speed Transmission from Ford

Ford has filed a patent application for an automatic transmission that goes up to eleven (forward gears). If the design enters production, it could very well be first passenger vehicle transmission that goes to eleven. Most cars only go to seven, or eight. Some–equipped with the recently released nine-speed automatic by ZF Friedrichshafen–go to nine. Ford and GM are jointly developing a transmission that goes to ten, but this transmission will go to eleven.
