Federated Media Publishing

Laughing Squid recently joined Federated Media Publishing, an organization that helps companies find author driven websites and in turn helps those authors generate additional revenue for their websites through focused advertising. Based out of Sausalito, Federated Media was started by John Battelle, one of the founders of Wired Magazine and The Industry Standard, who recently wrote “The Search”, his book on Google and the search industry, which he also writes about on his Searchblog.

I first became acquainted with John Battelle when was he was helping Boing Boing figure out the best way to offer advertising on their blog. John is referred to as Boing Boing’s band manager and the development their ad system was part of the early stages of Federated Media. Back in January, my good friend and fellow photographer, Thomas Hawk, joined FM and had really great things to say about them, which along with our pals at Boing Boing, helped influenced our decision to come aboard. In doing so, Laughing Squid joined over 80 other great websites at FM, including our friends at Digg, Metroblogging, MAKE, TechCrunch, GigaOm, Tailrank, 43 Folders and Techdirt.

For more on FM, check out the Federated Media blog as well as recent coverage in Business 2.0.

Of course Laughing Squid’s rearders are a unique group of individuals who don’t fit neatly into any kind of normal demographic, so FM is curious about our regular visitors (we’re curious too). If you don’t mind, please take a moment and fill out FM’s Laughing Squid Survey, which is completely anonymous and does not ask for any kind of identifying information.
