Elon Musk Unveils the New Tesla Model 3
Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk unveiled the company’s Model 3 electric car at an event on March 31, 2016 held at the Tesla Design Center in Hawthorne, California. At a starting price of $35,000 before federal rebates, the Model 3 is meant to be a more affordable electric car to bring the technology to more people.
Musk announced the base level version of the car will be able to go from zero to 60 mph in under six seconds, travel 215 miles on a single charge, and features Tesla’s autopilot safety system.
Customers can reserve their Model 3 now for a down payment of $1,000. Musk said he feels “fairly confident” that deliveries will begin late 2017.
Here is the full announcement from Musk.
Wired also created a short video about the highlights of the unveil.
Before the announcement, Musk high-fived the people waiting in line to reserve their Model 3 at the Tesla location in Century City Mall, Los Angeles.
