Bottled History, Short Film About a Retired Australian Sailor Who Makes Ship in a Bottle Models
“Bottled History” is a short documentary about Ray Gascoigne, an 85-year-old retired sailor in Australia who has been making ship in a bottle models for the past 60 years. Gascoigne began the hobby as way to pass the time while at sea. Over the years he has built hundreds of models, though nowadays he does so on dry land in a small apartment in Sydney. Commoner Films spent three days with Gascoigne to film his process and interview him for the documentary. The film was created for Australian magazine Smith Journal. An article on Gascoigne is in volume six of the magazine.
