A Series of Microscopic Castle Drawings Etched Onto Single Grains of Sand
Visual artist Vik Muniz and artist/researcher Marcelo Coelho have collaborated to create microscopic drawings of castles on single grains of sand as part of Vice’s The Creators Project. Muniz used a camera lucida device to make the drawings, and then they etched them onto a grain of sand using a scanning electron microscope and a focused ion beam. The drawings are currently part of an exhibit on Muniz at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art that runs through August 2014.
