Time-Lapse Video of Summer in San Francisco

by Scott Beale on September 18, 2009 · 7 comments

Ben Wiggins shot a beautiful time-lapse video of San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area over the summer using a Canon 5D Mark II.

The music featured in the video is “Revolve” by hisboyelroy.

Thanks to Jon W for the tip!

Ben shows us places we’ve seen a million times — places that we think we know — with new eyes.

He has masterful command of timelapse technology.

The fog seems oceanic and overwhelming in some shots.

The tracks of the planes over the moonlit bay at 2:42 and again at 3:32 are stunning.

Ben shows SFO’s air traffic control system in a way that reveals the beauty and logic of the arrivals and landings.

THAT was awesome! I felt the cold, damp air rush to me just as I experienced it when I moved to SF 17 years ago! Surreal.

How on earth did you get the shot of the Golden Gate Bridge from high up yet adjacent to the bridge at 2:42 ish? I see the Sutro tower and planes landing towards SFO, so you’re facing the city it seems- were you hovering in a helicopter?

A really amazing clip, well done and beautiful. I love San Francisco very much and this was a nice visual poem to the place.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece. It is a remarkable accomplishment. Best of all it takes full advantage of the wonderful “fog effects” that the Bay Area enjoys because of its many micro-climates.
