T.bias Flipping Dreadlocks In Super Slow Motion

by Scott Beale on November 13, 2009 · 4 comments

Super slow motion video of my friend T.bias flipping his dreadlocks shot with a high-speed camera at 6,800fps.

A normal speed video shot by Karen Marcelo is shown for comparison.

The music is “Rag Tag Flag” from T.Bias’ Hooks’n'Heels project.

Vimeo tries to push you a lot of pixels and audio since it is in HD.

I made a YouTube version for those on iPhones or who otherwise prefer that method (Vimeo allows higher quality and better control, but YouTube offers other points of entry and the sometimes usefulness of dithering your content down automatically).

Didn’t Trent Reznor do something similar way back in the old “Head Like a Hole” video? Like, 20 years ago?

I guess you could say that, but he was kneeling over a bucket of water and flipping his wet hair back. I don’t know if he had dreadlocks at the time or not (I believe not), but either way this is still a different bag of chips. They definitely weren’t shooting 6,800fps in HD…

…not to mention my dreads are taller than some of my friends (can’t find the picture of My Hair vs. My Friend™, but they measure in at ~5ft+) and have taken 20 years to grow. To me the interesting thing is watching my hair do some weird things to the point where they seem to be swimming in the air…
