Laughing Squid Stickers on the SF Chronicle Front Page

Front page of Chronicle

The front page of today’s San Francisco Chronicle features a photo of Kevin Burton and Jonathan Moore of Tailrank working at Ritual Coffee Roasters with both of their laptops prominently displaying Laughing Squid stickers.

The article by Dan Fost, “Where Neo-Nomads Ideas Percolate”, is about how many San Francisco companies have virtual offices that operate out of coffeehouses.

I spy a Mule sticker on the laptop on the right.

Funny, the article mentions a number of these so-called “bedouin” cafes, yet fails to mention one of the original pioneers: Dana Street Roasting Company in downtown Mountain View.

I started using their WAP in 2002, way back when wifi routers weren’t available at Best Buy, only a handful of laptops had 801.22bm, and Live Networks still owned the Live.com domain name.

It has been easy to run the virtual office out of a coffeeshop for years, but I guess since Web 2.0 is really entering the mainstream, this is somehow “news”.

This article reminds me of everything that I hated about the first dot com boom.

What, because it’s impossible to get a seat in a SF coffee house and impossible to find any news in the chron?
