La Contessa Burial at Sea

by Scott Beale on February 6, 2007 · 3 comments

In December the Extra Action Marching Band’s amazing 60‘ land roving Spanish galleon “La Contessa” was destroyed by arson. Last Friday, February 2nd hundreds of people showed up for a La Contessa Burial at Sea which took the form of a classic Viking funeral using a scaled down replica of the original La Contessa. Cory McKenzie shot some great video of the memorial services.

For more on the fate of La Contessa, check out Steve Jones’ in-depth article from last week’s SF Bay Guardian: “The mystery of La Contessa”

UPDATE 1: More photos from Pilar Delatierra, Violet Blue, Nina Alter and Ian Baker

UPDATE 2: Erik Davis wrote a great farewell post: “Au revoir La Contessa”
