The main purpose for our rainy day visit to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery was to pay tribute to Johnny Ramone (born John Cummings), guitarist for The Ramones, whose ashes were laid to rest there in January, 2005. His gravesite is complete with a monument and statue of the late punk rock musician. Quotes from his friends are eched on the side of the tomb, including Eddie Vedder, Rob Zombie, Lisa Marie Presley, Vincent Gallo, John Frusciante and his wife Linda Ramone.
As fate would have it, we visited Johnny’s grave on the day Blondie would take the stage for their final performance at CBGB (which closed their door two days later) and during their set, Deborah Harry sang The Ramone’s song “I Want To Be Your Boyfriend”.

For the best book on the Ramones read,
“On The Road With The Ramones”
http://www.ontheroadwiththeramones.com
This is a MUST-HAVE book for all Ramones fans. It’s an inside look from the people who were actually there witnessing and experiencing all the extreme highs and lows of one of rock’s greatest bands. The Ramones’ music has influenced nearly every power pop, punk, alternative, and metal band. Monte A. Melnick served as The Ramones tour manager from their early New York club days at CBGB’s in the ’70s to their farewell gigs in 1996. Filled with memorabilia including photographs and interviews collected along the way, this is his view of life on the road with the band as “baby-sitter to psychiatrist, booking agent to travel agent, paymaster to van driver.” It’s such a fascinating read, you’ll have a hard time putting it down. Buy it, read it, and then revisit their albums. You’ll never look at the Ramones in the same light.

“IF A MAN CAN TELL HOW SUCCESSFUL HE IS IN LIFE BY HIS GREAT FRIENDS THEN I HAVE BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL.”
What a great guitar player. I visited the monument on a recent trip to Hollywood last month. I couldn’t help but to get choked up remembering back in high school listening to the Road to Ruin album. You will be missed my friend.Love you and all your work.
The best guitarrist player the world ever met. Larga vida a Ramones, Hey ho…
“PUNK NOT DEAD” LARGA VIDA A LOS RAMONES
