ETech 2007 (Wednesday)

O’Reilly’s Web 2.0 Expo kicks off this Sunday at Moscone West in San Francisco. One of the conference’s co-organizers, Brady Forrest is hosting a special version of Ignite on Sunday night from 7pm-9pm. Ignite is a monthly event that Brady runs in Seattle (along with Bre Pettis of Make Magazine) that features geeks giving 5 minute presentations on a variety of technology topics. Sunday’s Ignite event is free, all you need to do is sign-up for a free Web 2.0 Expo pass.

Brady has posted the list of speakers that have signed-up so far and he is still looking for speakers if you are interested. See the Ignite wiki and Upcoming.org for more info.

If you had five minutes on stage what would you say? What if you only got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds? Would you pitch a project? Launch a web site? Teach a hack? We’re going to find out when we try our first Ignite event at Web 2.0 Expo. Happening Sunday evening, this will be a high-energy event. If you can’t picture what it would be like check out the videos from a recent Ignite event in Seattle. Sign up to participate and get more information on the wiki. Attendees get preference over speakers and companies. We have room for 20 speakers. If there are more than 20 submissions then the program committee will select submissions.

To get a better idea of what Ignite is all about, check out this video from last Thursday’s event in Seattle:

yep yep… sounds a lot like what we’ve been doing with the SF New Tech Meetup for over a year now.
