A giant balloon shaped like an elderly man’s head was flown over the city of Utsunomiya, Japan back in December in an absurdist art project entitled The Day an Ojisan’s Face Floated in the Sky. The project was based on a dream artist Haruka Kojin had when she was a child; Kojin enlisted the help of her fellow collaborators in the Me art group to bring the two-year project to fruition. The balloon’s 49-foot-tall face is that of an old man (or ojisan) the trio selected from amongst Utsunomiya’s residents. The project was created in collaboration with Utsunomiya Museum of Art.
