Film in America is an excellent website that documents the filming locations of various movies and TV shows, broken down by state and title. Here’s their list of films and TV shows shot in Northern California and San Francisco neighborhoods.

Sometimes they take stills from films, identifying the location of the shots. They did this with a few of my favorite San Francisco films, including “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” (1978), “The Maltese Falcon” (1941), “Bullitt” (1968), “Dirty Harry” (1971), “Vertigo” (1958) and “The Conversation” (1974).

Thanks for this! I had a great time perusing the site, and found lots of pictures from Harold and Maude.

i’ll be doing something similar in the sub-typical eyenoise compilation fashion when i present faster pussycat, kill! kill! and vanishing point @ the FILM FARM for Feb. 4.

Chicken’s taking the bus out for DRIVE-OUT theater, as you may know, for a 6-week run (this will be show number 5 in the series). we’ll do some cruising… having vertigo spliced with mondo topless, the rock spliced with bullitt, and lots more establishing shots in the mix. picking up speed, as we leave the city, with our feature presentations.

maybe you can make it. hope so.
