While we were in Destin, Florida a couple of weeks back, we stopped off at McGuire’s Irish Pub on Highway 98. I had been there in the past, but previously I did not notice the creepy double-decker bus full of mannequins with an animatronic driver parked out front. So of course I had to shoot some photos and a video of the surreal scene.

If you find yourself in Destin, you should definitely check it out McGuire’s. Don’t let the bus scare you away, the traditional Irish food and beer (they have a brewery on site) is excellent.

The also have another location, the original McGuire’s, in Pensacola.

Oh and when you go to the restroom, make sure to read the signs very carefully. I saw several people tricked into going into the restroom of the opposite gender.

UPDATE: beachdeal sent us a video of the bus during the holidays with the mannequins dressed in Santa outfits.

I’m still just gazing in amused wonder at the sentence “previously I did not notice the creepy double-decker bus full of mannequins with an animatronic driver parked out front.” Exactly how drunk were you on prior visits to this establishment?

The driver looks like Elvis–only adds to the eerie feel.

McGuires has some secret menu items you might be interested if you ever come back to Destin, including a Chocolate Ale and special burger options. I do not recommend kissing the moose as you will be encouraged to do. It hasn’t been tested but I’m sure it’s carrying more infectious diseases than a rich blonde heiress.

Are you still down there? You have to check out the Red Bar in Grayton Beach! http://graytonbeach.com/redbar.html

And Mike’s homemade Doughnuts in Panama City. Tell Mike one of the Newton girls sent you.

I meant to message those Florida to Ohio folks, but they were already most of the way to Louisiana before I could let ‘em know..

But yeah, get some oysters while you’re down there. It’s oyster season and they’re extra good this year!
