Bacn, Email That Is Not Spam or Personal Email

by Scott Beale on August 22, 2007 · 13 comments

Last weekend at PodCamp Pittsburgh 2 a new internet term was coined, “Bacn”. Bacn is email that is not spam and or personal email, but something in-between. Examples might include social network invites, newsletters, billing notices and so on. To help fight the dangers of Bacn and spread general awareness of this crisis, check out the Bacn community blog and Bacn on Twitter.

Bacn is indeed troubling, but how could I focus on the growing menace when it’s being talked about by two cute boys with distractingly adorable haircuts?

Yes, I am the most shallow person in the universe.

Couldn’t a better name have been picked? Like bologna, of blgna if you want to keep with the theme of dropping vowels. I, like many people, always want bacon but the emails in question are not always desired.

Are you freaking serious? Taking time out of your day to coin a phrase “bacn”, start a group about this “problem” and then whine about not having enough time in your day to read email from your various subscriptions, posts, blogs etc? Here’s an idea. Stop spending time about talking about “bacn”, making videos about “bacn” and READ YOUR FRACKING EMAIL! STFU already! My 2¢.

Yeah, I have to agree with Chris D, if not as vehemently. Do we really need a name for everything?
